SPOTLIGHT ON OUR LOCAL FARMERS

Many of the fruits and vegetables we buy in the grocery store are leached of vitamins and minerals. Factory farmed beef can be lower in Vitamin E, some B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, potassium and Omega-3 fatty acids, not to mention the stress hormones passed on from unhealthy living conditions.

Finding a local farmer where you can get fresh organically grown in season vegetables and fruits is fundamental to good health. Not to mention it is easy and no more expensive when you consider the quality of the food.

Also produce picked before ripening maintains high levels of lectins, which would diminish normally and lectin can have a negative effect on the microbiome. Not to mention the pesticides and preservatives that can negatively impact blood sugar, as well as the immune and reproductive systems.

Learn more about this great local farm:

Pleasant Hill Produce grows high quality food for the local Frederick community using organic and sustainable practices. Synthetic insecticides or herbicides are never used, rather planting is purposeful to attract beneficial insects and discourage the destructive ones. Weeds are controlled by hoeing, mulching, and hand weeding. And cover crops build the soil organic matter .

This farm also has eggs, meat, cheese, bread, honey and kombucha.

Vegetables/fruits from May to July include beets, broccoli, cabbage, garlic scopes, lettuce, peas, spinach, spring onions, kale, radish, raspberries, strawberries, kohlrabi and herbs.
